Me!

Hi! Thank you for visiting my website! My name is Benjamin Carlson and I am currently a senior at UC Berkeley studying Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. However, I'm almost done here and I am going to graduate in December 2019, so I am also currently searching for a full time job! Though I'm studying some electrical engineering topics, I am focusing most of my studies on computer science because I really enjoy computer science and programming. I spend a lot of my time developing personal projects, working on class programming projects, and testing my abilities with coding challenges. Personally, I still don't yet know which areas of CS I want to focus on because there are so many interesting topics. I have taken many classes, and most of them were great, but I feel that these classes don't provide a good insight into what work for that topic is like in industry. Because of this, I think that some job experience would be very helpful in deciding which are to focus on. However, I do enjoy working through difficult CS problems and thinking of exciting algorithms, so I currently believe backend programming is perfect for me.

Other than studying and programming, I enjoy teaching and dancing! I have only been teaching students for about 2 years now, and I have found that I love working with students and using my experience to help them learn and succeed in computer science. And as for dancing, it is a fun way to relieve stress and get exercise! I have been a part of AFX dance for almost 2 years now, and I enjoy everything about the experience and the community.

Memer

This project is my first attempt at making a substantial mobile application. This idea is an interesting twist on regular mobile dating apps; instead of another platform for judging others of the prefered gender, Memer allows individuals to express their opinions of other individuals' memes. It is a free software that allows anyone to upload memes and see what others think.

Currently, this is all my application features. I have many ideas in mind for improving the application and will continue to develop it, but as a busy college student, I can only put so much time into developing my app.

Bestris

Bestris is my personal take on the classic game of Tetris. I began developing Bestris because I dislike how the only available Tetris games either do not have the standard of gameplay that I seek or require countless hours of gameplay to unlock features and are still swarmed with ads. The goal of Bestris is to be an accessible and free way to play Tetris. While this project is still a work in progress, it features all of the basic functionality of Tetris and can be enjoyed by casual Tetris players.

Here is a demo of the gameplay! If you look closely, this video displays many of the features my game currently includes:
